Resolution Supporting Timber Management On Jackson Demonstration State Forest (As passed by the Mendocino Forest Council) WHEREAS: The forests of Mendocino County are important for its economy, environment and wildlife, and for the recreation, nourishment and education of its citizenry, and WHEREAS: Jackson Demonstration State Forest is a unique and valuable forest asset whose future is of great importance to Mendocino County, and WHEREAS: The harvesting of trees from these forests is an important element of the County’s economic well-being, and WHEREAS: The State of California under the auspices of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection manages Jackson Demonstration State Forest comprising nearly 50,000 acres of productive timberland, and WHEREAS: The State’s management philosophy of timber products since acquiring ownership has resulted in the reestablishment of timber inventories significantly higher than surrounding industrial timberlands, and WHEREAS: The continued management of timber products in harmony with other uses as stated in the mission for the forest is in the County’s interests. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: The County of Mendocino recognizes and supports the sustainable production and management of timber resources on Jackson Demonstration State Forest. FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED: The County of Mendocino strongly urges the State of California Resources Agency and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to expedite the development and implementation of the environmental documents necessary for the commencement of timber harvesting operations to further the mission of the forest.
