On June 11 of 2003, Judge Henderson of the Superior Court of
Mendocino County refused to issue an injunction against logging in Jackson
Forest, even though he said he was very likely to find the environmental
document and management plan for Jackson invalid.
Seven days passed before the Campaign could prepare and file
an appeal. The Court of Appeals issued a stay on further logging two hours after
receiving the appeal, and it kept its stay in place until the Superior Court
invalidated the management plan.
During the seven days, 1600 trees were felled in Brandon
Gulch, one of the most valuable recreational and ecological areas in Jackson
Forest.
