Dear Secretary Nichols:
Attached are letters I have written to the Director of CDF and to the Board of Forestry. The letters explain the many reasons why CDF should not be asking the Board to revise its policies governing state forest and to sanction continued logging in Jackson State Forest under the outdated management plan.
Assemblymember Virginia Strom-Martin has asked for a delay in the Board consideration of the agenda items concerning state forests.
I speak for the 900 members of our organization when I ask you to intervene personally to see that the agenda items on the state forests are withdrawn. To continue forward would reflect very poorly on your agency. You can be sure that you will hear loudly from our members if CDF does push these actions.
Conversely, you will have our support to change funding for the Forest Resources Improvement Fund to the general fund.
Thank you for your consideration,
